Thermal Water Rio Hondo

In the bordering zone between the provinces of Tucuman and Santiago del Estero in the creek of the river Dulce, the locality of Thermal water Rio Hondo, it is a tourist center of health, whose main activity are the Thermal Baths, since it is located on the underground sheet of thermal waters, totally rich in salts and minerals.

_ Casino Provincial _ (Caseros St. 126) The building was inaugurated in 1943, it has a Spanish neocolonial style. Located in front of Plaza San Martin right in the center of the city, it is one of the main points of life at night. _
Church Nuestra Senora del Perpetuo Socorro _ (Sarmiento St. and San Francisco Solano St.) Main temple of Thermal water Rio Hondo. It has a neocolonial architectonic style, with a front where it is appraised an important arc of main entrance and a lateral tower with a bell tower established towards the left of the mentioned entrance.
_ Guemes Park : It is the great green lung of the city, since it is populated by numerous species of native trees. It includes several sites of interest: the Cultural and Artisan Center General San Martin (where local crafts can be acquired), a Polideportivo Municipal, a Center of Exhibitions and a Medical Center of Thermal Direction.
This last one is located in the Southeastern end of the park and offers, like most of the establishments located in the locality, therapies with thermal waters for aesthetic and medicinal applications, supervised by specialistic doctors and personal highly enabled.

* Embalse de Rio Hondo
This transcendental hydraulic work for the province was put into operation the 1st January 1968, on the course of the river Dulce. It assures the irrigated land for a vast surface extremely barren earth, at the same time that attenuates the crescents of the river, regulates the regime of its volume, provides water destined to the consumption and generates energy that supplies to the cities of Thermal water Rio Hondo, Santiago del Estero and San Miguel de Tucuman.
It has been transformed into a point of tourist attraction, since the rich fauna that the artificial lake populates (gilded, pacues, surubies and tarariras) it invites to the fishing. In addition nautical sports and navigation can be practiced, counting on several clubs and wharves. The lake has a surface that surpasses the 30,000 hectares, fed by waters of rivers Marapa, Gastona, Seco and Sali.
In the old villa of Rio Hondo, to about 15 kilometers of Thermal water Rio Hondo approximately, are the denominated "holy tracks" that according to the tradition they are the footsteps that I leave San Francisco Solano (very venerated in the whole Santiago del Estero) on a rock when it visited the locality in 1950. * Complex Yacu 'Rupaj

* River Dulce
Important river fed by the waters that arise from the dam of Rio Hondo. It is born in the limits of the provinces of Salta and Tucuman, it crosses the Province of Santiago del Estero in southwestern direction and it culminates in the lagoon of Mar Chiquita in Province of Cordoba. Its passage by the Province of Santiago del Estero it originates an own ecosystem with great variety of bathed and streams.
