Formerly, it was a town builded around the old chapel Nuestra Señora del Rosario (that today exists), even before its foundation in 1797.
Nowadays, it is an important tourist center, located in the northeast of the province of San Luis, bordering with the province of Cordoba. Located on the foot of the Comechingones´ mountain range.
Its main attractiveness, which surprises the tourists, is its particular weather, that is considered third in the world.
The village of Merlo is located to almost 900 meters of height and the average temperature oscillates between 20° C (degrees centigrades). In addition to these favorable conditions, it is necessary to mention that the mountain range interrupts the originating humid air intake of the Atlantic and the polluting elements that drag in their passage by humid Pampas. Apart from that, the Comechingones mountain range, determinant for this tourist center, are an old bulk, the electrical charge of its rocks is very low, with negative ionization, and that the decomposition of the granite releases oxygen atoms which are received in the atmosphere, transforming itself into ozone. This peculiar unfolding of the climate is beneficial for the health, influencing positively in the mood.
