It is the most important urban center of the National Park Nahuel Huapi, located in the province of Rio Negro, on the South margin of the Nahuel Huapi lake and crowned by the tips of the Cathedral hill.
In 1876, the expert Francisco Moreno, raised for the first time the Argentine flag to borders of the lake and in 1895 the German citizen, Mr. Charles Wiederhold, who arrived from Chile, builded the first house thus founding San Carlos de Bariloche (he had a store).

This city is one of the most populated and one of the most important tourist centers of the Argentina, located far from the Viedma city to 832 kilometer, in the heart of the National Park Nahuel Huapi.
The parents Guillermo and Gaspar Lopez, who discovered the passage of the Indians vuriloches, whose knowledge was jealously kept by the natives, are the people in charge of which the name of the ethnic group, although deformed, transformed itself into Bariloche.
