Ruins of San Ignacio Mini

Located to 63 kilometers of Posadas, capital of the province of Misiones, on the National Route N° 12.

After the Iguazú Waterfalls (within the National Park of the same name), The Ruins of San Ignacio Miní occupy an outstanding place for the tourism in the province of Misiones.
They comprise of the legacy of the great empire constructed by the Company of Jesus and the guaraní town, of 15 populations of the provinces of Misiones and Corrientes. Of a total of 30 towns that were founded by the jesuitas during century XVII on the forest of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. Its name comes from the founder of the Company of Jesus San Ignacio de Loyola.
Its degree of conservation allows to appreciate the urban layout of the reductions, that according to the European vision, that was the place where the natives were taken for "civilizing them", turning them to the Christianity and to avoid his bad habits, like being naked.

A remarkable urban layout, although it was not the greatest reduction, but it was the best one equipped, than it only could extend towards three sides by the presence of the orchard and the forest to backs of the town.
The jesuita city was founded by the priets Jose Cataldino and Simón Masseta on 1610 on the present state of Parana (Brazil), relocated it in the margins of the Yabebirí towards 1631 and, later in its present location. Soon they were re-discovered in 1903 by an expedition commanded by Leopoldo Lugones.
At the entrance there is a CENTER OF INTERPRETATION with nine rooms that expose good part of history.
