National Park El Palmar

It is located in 97 kilometer of the National Route N° 14. To 54 kilometers to the north of the city of Colon, in the province of Entre Rios .

Created in 1965, to preserve the greater concentration of palms yatay of Argentina, The National Park El Palmar has a surface of 8,500 hectares. It is located on the left margin of the Uruguay river, in the east of the province of Entre Rios.
Palmar is the formation characteristic of this park, made up of a single species of palm: yatay. Another formation of the park, contrasting with palmars, which grows in high lands, is the forest in gallery, that grows on the margins of the Uruguay river and streams. Its formation must to that the Uruguay river drags originating seeds of the subtropical forest, which prosper in its coasts and the one of its affluents.
In other times, area of thick growth of palmars of yatay ( Syagrus yatay ) occupied great part of the province of Corrientes, province of Entre Rios, Uruguay and the south of Brazil. With the arrival of the European man they began to be destroyed, not to have wood of commercial advantage, but to be needed that vital space for agriculture or the cattle ranch.
Today associates with their natural atmosphere only have left the 8,500 hectares of the Parque Nacional El Palmar . Today 40 % of the species of plants are present as well solely and animals that composed the original ecosystem, the rest has disappeared by the human action. The fauna includes mount foxes, vizcachas (South american rodent), nandu (American ostrich) and numerous species of birds.

_ Sendero Principal - Main Footpath _
_ Miradores La Glorieta y Arroyo El Palmar _ Strategically important points to appreciate the landscape populated with palms and shore forests on water's course.
_ Sendero El Mollar - Footpath the Mollar _ The Molle ( Schinus longifolius ), the presence of these trees gave the name to the footpath.
_ Ruinas de La Calera de Barquin - Ruins of the Limekiln of Bellows _ This historical site will show Jesuitical constructions that date from year 1780 and which they were made by the commissioner of the Viceroy Ceballos, Don Manuel Barquin, for the lime obtaining. From here you can go to the beach of the Uruguay river.
