Villa Carlos Paz

Located at 36 kilometers to the west of Cordoba, capital of the province, by National Route N° 20.

Villa Carlos Paz , is located at the south of the valley of Punilla (between the Sierras Chicas and the Sierras Grandes) to borders of the Lake San Roque and furrowed by the river San Antonio, is the main tourist center of the west part of the province.
Its strategic location allows, towards the north, to cross the valley of Punilla (National Route N° 38); to the west to journey by Los Gigantes (Provincial Route N° 28); to the southwest to accede to the way of Altas Cumbres (High Summits) through Pampas of Achala; and going to the south, you can arrive to zone of great docks and dams and to the valley of Calamuchita (Provincial route N° 5).

It had his origin in the old country house Santa Leocadia, which was bought in 1869 by Rudecindo Paz. This man, was also the one who begun the construction of the dock San Roque. From 1904, one of its children, Carlos Nicandro Paz, remained as the only owner of earth. July 16th of 1921, because of the expansion of his small village delineated by poplars and willows, he founded the town. This town became a city July 16th of 1964, and in the 70's and 80's decades a great amount of bars, discotheques, theatres and a casino were inaugurated.

Villa Carlos Paz counts with a great infrastructure of services and an abundant supply of leisure and spectacles for all the ages.

What cannot be lost!

* Complex Aerosilla Carlos Paz (Florencio Sanchez S/N). Cablecarril of 1,000 meters of route to ascend to the hill in "telesillas" (a vehicle made with a double chair that goes up and down by a cable towards the foot and the top of the hill), until arriving at the Estacion Superior, that has a traditional bar with balconies and telescopes to observe the panorama of its environs. In addition to this, you can enjoy the "aerotrén", a monorail vehicle that travels arround the top of the hill.

*Hill of the Cross - Cerro de la Cruz (at the end of Avenue L. M. Estrada). Monument made of concrete cement that crowns the hill, builded by the architect M. Arrambide, of 15 meters of height. On the foot there is a Way of the Cross inaugurated in 1934. The way to ascend to the hill and to see each one of the stations of the Calvary of Jesus has 2,000 meters of route, crossing 7 hills until arriving at the 1,000 meters of height where is the cross. You can join a Peregrination which is made on Good Friday.

* Cucu Clock - Reloj Cucu. Symbol of the City. Inaugurated the 25th May 1958. It has 7 meters of height, the Cucuclock was constructed using artisan technques used at the region of Salva Negra, Germany.

* Dock and lake San Roque . The construction of the dam ended in 1891 and its aim was to supply water to the capital. The original work was projected by engineers Casaffousth, Bialet Massé and Dumesnil. The old strong wall was left 150 meters below the present one, when in 1944 it was reformed. In kilometer 43.5 of the Provincial route N° 38, you can see the OVEN constructed by Juan Bialet Massé in 1884, where the lime used for the strong wall of the original dock was performed. In the lake, surrounded by forestations that allow the practice of navigation and diverse nauticals sports. Also there are a lots of boats, like catamarans, boats and amphibians, that sail waters of the lake.

* Bath river San Antonio . Villa Carlos Paz is base to make these strolls by the river, where the bath abound.
