Located to 560 kilometers of San Fernando of the Valley of Catamarca, one rises in a depression of the land, a river basin denominated "hoyada", surrounding by walls made of stone by up to 100 meters of height; this is a consequence of the presence of the Antofagasta river (at the village is the homonymous lagoon), protected of the weather inclemencies, creating therefore an atmosphere adapted for the human assent.

Main oasis of puna catamarqueña, Antofagasta means "house of the sun". It is center of a rich territory in vestiges of old cultures. It has a colourful aspect, with houses of double anchored with plinth of stone and cake ceilings.

_ Church _ In this small Church venerates the pattern of the town, the Virgin of Loreto that is celebrated the 10th December, each year.

_ Petroglifos de las Peñas _ On tobáceas rocks (very porous and light limestone rock) of near farallones, are cave paintings that represent the form of life of the natives of the place.
