Recoleta
it's a district that owes its name to the Old Convent of the established Recoletos monks at the beginning of century XVIII. Today his renewed aspect it concentrates green spaces, historical monuments and centers dedicated to art, as the Cultural Center Recoleta and the Palais de Glace.

Without a doubt, one of the more interesting tourist points of this district is the Cementery of Recoleta, between the streets Junín, Vicente Lopez and Azcuénaga.

Its beginning is related to the Basilica of Pilar and the recoletos monks. In 1822, it became public cemetery, inaugurated by Bernardino Rivadavia. In 1881, the intendant Torcuato de Alvear ordered his remodeling, by the hand of the architect Juan A. Buschiazzo, that gave its current form of four diagonals. At the moment, tombs of important historical characters can be found in mausoleos and vaults of high historical value.

The Cemetery of Recoleta can be visited. There are guided visits held on the last Sunday of every month between March and November.

Mausoleo::. of General Carlos Maria de Alvear (the hero of Independence rests here, also Don Torcuato de Alvear, first intendant of Buenos Aires, and his son Marcelo Torcuato of the Alvear, president of the Republic), Admiral Brown, the Leloir family, Juan Bautista Alberdi , Manuel Quintana, Sarmiento and Bartolome Mitre, among others.

Tomb of General Juan Facundo Quiroga::. Among others.

Tombs::. of Martín Alzaga, Adolfo Alsina, Roque Sáenz Peña and Nicolás Avellaneda, among others.

Vault::. of Duarte family, here lies the body of Maria Eva Duarte de Perón (Evita), second wife of president Juan Domingo Perón, of Manuel Dorrego, Luis Piedra Buena, Juan Lavalle, Luis Vernet, Dorrego Ortiz Basualdo family and Luis Angel Firpo, among others.

Gomero::. It was planted in 1826 in the cementery and transplanted in 1834 in front of the cemetery, between the streets Ortiz, Junín and Quintana avenue . It has 17 meters high and 47 of diameter.

* Basilica of Pilar ( 1892 Junín street ): it is the second older temple of the city. Its architecture reflects the colonial style in Buenos Aires . It owes its name to the pattern of the city of Zaragoza ( Spain ). The first chapel was inaugurated in 1732, but it had several reforms.

* Monument of Torcuato de Alvear (in Alvear Square , between Pueyrredón avenues, Del Libertador and Alvear): tribute to the intendant renders. Inaugurated in 1900. There works an Arts & Crafts Fair.

* Monument of Ramon L. Falcon (in Seat J. Cárcano, between Alvear avenue , Haedo street and Quintana): tribute to the police chief.

* San Martín de Tours Square (between Posadas st., Schiaffino st. and Alvear avenue ): its name pays tribute to the "santo patrono" (holy guard) of the City of Buenos Aires .

* Cultural center Recoleta (next to the Basilica of Pilar, 1930 Junin st.): it occupies the ground in which was the Old Convent of the Recoletos monks, at the beginning of century XVIII. Today it is a space of the City's Government .

* Buenos Aires Desing Recoleta (to the left of the Cultural Center Recoleta, 2501 Pueyrredón avenue ): commercial stroll dedicated to design, architecture and decoration.

* Monument to General Carlos Maria de Alvear (corner of Alvear and Del Libertador avenues): valuable monument inaugurated in 1926.

* National hall of Plastic Arts (as well known as Palais de Glace, 1725 Posadas st.)

* Monument from France to Argentina , in France square (Plaza Francia), between Pueyrredón avenue , Del Liberator, Dr L. Agote and Levene.

* National Museum of Arts ( 1473 Del Libertador avenue , in General Urquiza square)

* Monument of Bartolome Mitre (in park, between Aguero st., Del Libertador Avenue and Dr L. Agote)

* Rubén Darío Square (between Austria st, Del Libertador avenue and Aguero): Monument to Eva Duarte and the National Library.

* Park Carlos Thays ( Callao and Del Libertador Avenues): old " Ital Park ", closed in 1990.
